funny, this afternoon I went somewhere, and the 17 yr old behind the counter, when I went to pay, said to me totally out of nowhere
" you look good"
I was stunned, wondering if maybe anthrax had somehow made its evil way through the ventilation system and warped this poor boy's mind... and I replied with an almost horrified
" what?!?"
" I said, You LOOK good ...",he answered, much more emphatically
and I was thinking what is the second part of that sentence, is it going to be followed by:
" for a chick who is so old"
or " for someone who has just a few weeks to live " (did he know something thatI didn't?) etc
various other absurd scenarios pirhouetted through my mind...
but he followed it up with
" I mean, you look happy today, you look really happy "
This blew my mind more than the previous statements, although now I was wondering if I should be insulted ( was he retracting the "you look good" statement, did this mean, he did not want to ravish me, in some evil pubescent hormonal way ? should I be upset?? )Anyway, before I could schedule an appointment with a plastic surgeon, I smiled a weak, almost apologetically relieved smile and said " oh, uh thanks I guess"
some boy said I looked happy. I took a quick mental inventory and for weeks and weeks I have been scowling on the inside, and desperately unhappy. and in 13 seconds, a 17 yr old making 6 $ an hour made me smile.
I walked away thinking, whoa he thinks I am happy, he ACTUALLY thinks I am happy. I did not want to disappoint him, I Left with the biggest smile on my face. my face hurts. but in a good way.
I think i am still smiling. weird
