your face was the braille that my fingers loved to read, tracing the memory of you again, night after night, I sometimes calligraphied your name upon my skin and tried to remember how I could always hear your heart beating through your chest, whenever my head came soft and low to rest. The rhythym of the rapid thudding always made me imagine that a hummingbird was trapped inside your breast~
I still remember the greyness of the day when you went away. The surface of frost upon my car window where you last kissed me goodbye through a thin pane of glass, has kept the pale outline as a memory. I breathe out and watch your phantom kiss take shape and emerge like a ghost haunting me. I tremble as the hummingbird flickers and seems to come alive inside me and I know that whereever you are, in this world, we are somehow unchanged, for no matter how far apart we are, our hearts still beat the same.
