life with sierra is blissful and fleeting. She is growing so fast, I try to hold onto the moments, freeze frame the memory of her perfect smile, or the softness of her duckling hair when I rub my cheek against the top of her head, or the ways she gums my mouth, when I kiss her, or the way she looks at me, like a hungry sparrow, when she wants to nurse,
and everynight she falls asleep curled in my arms, like a kitten, and when I fall asleep, I am dreamless, and wake up, and see her sweet face in the luminous glow of the nightlight and I am torpedoed with love for her. It hits me with such force.
This beautiful peaceful sleeping creature.
is.
my.
baby.
and I am astounded and overwhelmed.
I have yet to get used to the idea.
I don't take a single second for granted.
I always knew that I would love my child.
But I had no idea that I could ever feel a love like this.
She is everything.
in her, I finally see god.
