the water lashing against the rocks, carves a rhythym of salty words inside my mouth. I taste ocean spray and everything reminds me of you. I can still recall the stillness of my breath, held, as we entered the newborn night and fell crashing against a sweeping white sand shore, by the lagoon of a caribbean blue sky underneath antigua's endless tiara of stars. and you rose up and arched over the island of my skin using the strong dock of your arms and said " nothing else matters, except this moment now. just close your eyes "
and so I did. and even though I knew how to swim, I think we capsized, and something in you slowdrowned me that night, so thatnow, whenever I start to fall into a gentle sleep,
I hear the low roar of ocean waves rolling towards me, and Iwake up with the imprint of seashells spelling a tale from so long ago.
